Shakespeare and Company can be found on the opposite side of the River Seine to the Notre Dame, within walking distance from the Cathedral. The store has a book published about it’s history since being opened by George Whitman and is very involved within the literature world, hosting literary festivals and launching a literary award in conjunction with the de Groot Foundation.
This bookstore is definitely an attraction for English speaking book lovers. The shop is very small, so there is a queue to get in, but I would describe it as looking like a library out of a fantasy book. The shelves line the walls from floor to ceiling with a spectrum of different genres ranging from paranormal to non-fiction. Unfortunately, they don’t allow photography, which is understandable, but I would have loved to document it’s beauty.
