The Ramblings of an Avid Traveller

Arthur’s Seat

I’m going to begin with a warning, this is not a venture to take lightly. While the views are stunning, it is not advisable for those of us who are scared of heights (I keep making myself suffer for the scenery). Also, if you make the foolish decision (like we did) to climb up to the summit in the ice, be prepared for your adrenaline to start pumping as you slip and slide the entire way. It is a lot of fun, but at the same time you are aware of the sheer drop that is only one wrong foot away.

Anyway, this is a very fun and free activity that could take several hours or, if it is a nice day and you decided to explore all of Holyrood Park, the entire day. While it didn’t take us very long to climb up to Arthur’s Seat, I feel that had the weather been friendlier, we would have spent a lot more time exploring the different ruins on the hills. However, as I mentioned above the paths were very icy when we went and Harry was a little afraid of falling to his death, so I didn’t force him to spend any more time being uncomfortable than was necessary.

Arthur’s Seat is actually an ancient volcano and one of four hill forts which dates back roughly 2000 years. It is the tallest peak in Holyrood Park, and as I’ve previously mentioned the views are amazing.
