Explore Castle Ashby: A Historic Gem in Northamptonshire

Castle Ashby was rebuilt in 1574 in an E-shape to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth I. It is currently the ancestral home of the Marquess of Northampton.

The site is open every day unless there is severe weather, but it does close earlier during the winter months like many outdoor areas. The seasons also dictate how much visitors are charged; during the summer months the price is per person, while in winter it is per vehicle.

It is very common for events to be hosted in the gardens for example holiday themed activities; like the Pumpkin Hunt organised for this Halloween, Easter Egg Hunt in Easter 2019, an Open-Air Cinema last August, and I can remember performing in the grounds for a charity run when I was still in school. It’s a beautiful place to spend the afternoon just admiring the scenery.

Picnics in the gardens of Castle Ashby are allowed, which would be lovely in the picturesque surroundings. Or, if you don’t fancy making your own lunch, there is the Tea Room, where you can enjoy some food that someone else has cooked.

If you enjoy spending time in the outside, particularly in beautiful surroundings, and are spending a bit of time in Northamptonshire, I would recommend giving it a look.
