So, while the importance of the type of accommodation varies depending on who you’re talking to, here are a few tips to choose which is best for you. Some types of trips have your accommodation decided for you, but most holidays there is a variety of options.
Choosing Accommodation based on Budget
It can be so easy to simply go for those five-star hotels but take a step back and think for a minute. Consider how much money you have at your disposal; how would you rather spend more on your trip or your accommodation? Now, I’m not saying that you should book the cheapest place you find but look into what you want out of your holiday. It’s better to look for accommodation which is mid-range, meaning that you can spend a little more on activities but also have the commodities and comfort you like.
Choosing Accommodation based on Location
The location of your accommodation is incredibly important. If you have your own transportation then it isn’t too much of a sticking point, however if you don’t you need to take this into consideration. How far away is your accommodation from your activities? How much will it cost you to travel back and forth? And how good are the transport links? A lot of the time you will find it is cheaper to stay further away from the tourist locations, but it isn’t always worth it when you tally up the travel costs.
Choosing Accommodation based on Group Size
The number of people you are travelling with can also influence where you are staying. If there is a larger group of you then you may prefer to book a rental instead of multiple hotel rooms. My family and I have made use of holiday rentals several times in the past, as when the whole extended family gets together there are twenty of us, so it is perfect for us. Instead of spending money on multiple hotel rooms, we spend it on a large house, generally with a pool and big outdoor space. We do this, not only to save some money, but it means that the kids have space to run around in a private place.
Catered or Self-Catered Accommodation
Another factor you would want to consider when choosing your accommodation, is whether you would like it to be catered or not. One of the perks of getting a hotel room is that a lot will include breakfast. When we do this, we find that we don’t always need to have lunch that day. If you know that you’ll be eating out a lot during your holiday, then you won’t want to be paying for a meal twice. Self-catering is also a less expensive option sometimes because you will be cooking the same type of meals you would be at home. However, if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, it may not be this way for the person who is having to cook meals.
How the Type of Holiday Can Affect Your Accommodation
The type of holiday you are wanting also plays a part in the accommodation that you choose. For example, if you are going on a backpacking holiday you wouldn’t be expecting to stay in five-star hotels, or, if you are going on a luxury holiday you won’t be staying in a hostel. So, think about what you want out of your holiday before booking any accommodation.
Conclusion
There are so many different things that can influence where you choose to stay, and it can make things a little stressful. But when you truly consider what you want and need out of your accommodation it is a piece of cake deciding where to stay on your holiday.
