As the New Year began and I started to look back over the trips that I had taken over the past couple of years, I am reminded of how much I love visiting new places and trying new things.
We have a big trip coming up this year, which both Harry and I are really excited about, it is our first time trying a package holiday so we’re hopeful that it will be a good experience. As such, I thought I’d share my bucket list holidays that hopefully one day we’ll be able to go on.
1) Egypt

Growing up my paternal grandad and I bonded over our love and interest of history. It was this that sparked my desire to become an archaeologist when I was little, we would always talk about visiting the pyramids and joining a dig there. Unfortunately, this wasn’t in the cards, but I promised to make it there myself.
When Harry and I first got together I told him about this ambition and he was all for it, so it has always been a destination that we have both considered numerous times. One of these days I will make it to see all of the locations Grandad and I would talk about and maybe I’ll even get to join in on a dig as well.
2) Greece

This has been on my bucket list for a while now. I think there are several reasons that this location was added to my list, the first being the history of Greece (primarily that in Athens) as that is a big part of what draws me to locations.
Another reason is all of the books that I have read which are based in Greece. The more I read about the beauty of the place and hear about the adventures the characters have, the more I want to experience it for myself.
3) Australia

I have family living in Australia and know that my parents contemplated moving there for years when I was little. We always used to watch Wanted Down Under, so I’ve always had the thought of relocating, but the thought of leaving my family behind would make this almost impossible for me.
Even so, one day I would really like to visit and get to experience the country for myself.
I wouldn’t want to stay in a single location when in Australia either, if I were to visit, I’d want to see everything I could. For example, I’d want to visit Sydney for the Opera House and bridge, Queensland for the Great Barrier Reef, and Perth to visit family and enjoy some of the hikes.
4) Pompeii, Italy

Another historical location on my bucket list is Pompeii, I’m so jealous that Harry’s already been. I don’t really have a reason for this to be on my bucket list other than the history of the place, but it has been one of my desired destinations for years.
5) Canada

Most people when discussing an ideal trip to Canada will make the distinction between a summer or winter visit, but I’d love to visit regardless of the season.
The idea of loads of snow and the activities available with that is a large draw to visit the country in the winter. I just think it would be absolutely beautiful and open up a lot of new experiences for me.
In the summer, it is all about the outdoor activities as well, the hiking and water sports really appeal to me. If we were to visit it would be a very active holiday!
6) New Orleans, America

This is a fairly new addition to the list, one that Harry insists is based off of my recent discovery of Gambit from the x-men (it isn’t!). In actual fact, I think Harry and his ambition to see various celebrations around the world is to blame because it’s the reason I was researching Mardi Gras in the first place.
I’m not sure what it is that draws me to New Orleans, but I’m itching to try the food and be immersed in the many cultures that are in the city.
7) Machu Picchu, Peru

For years I have admired the views and tranquillity of Machu Picchu through pictures, so I would definitely be interested in seeing it in person at least once.
8) Iceland

A very common destination for people’s travel bucket lists, but I would love to see the Northern Lights. I know that recently they have been visible in the UK, I just haven’t been lucky enough to witness them.
Also staying in a glass igloo would be amazing!
9) Norway

Another recent addition to my bucket list is Norway (I blame Race Across the World). We found a trip that will cover the travel across Norway by train so that you can see all of the views which is what I would want.
10) Hawaii, America

The idea of being able to say that I’ve surfed in Hawaii would be amazing! I’ve heard so much about the relaxed atmosphere and range of water activities on offer that it would be hard to resist the draw for me.
We also agreed (when I bought it up) that it would be really interesting to learn more about the place and possibly get to experience a traditional luau.
Conclusion
My travel bucket list hasn’t changed much since I was little (possibly due to how expensive some of the location are!), however, hopefully in the next few years I’ll be able to begin visiting a few of these locations. Especially as it’s continuously growing!
You can also guess what appeals to me when looking at where I would like to visit; the history of a place is big draw as are the available activities.
What would be on your travel bucket list? Is there anywhere you’d like to go if money and safety wasn’t an issue?
