The past two summers we have spent a week in Barmouth enjoying the sights and surrounding areas. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, so in this post I’ll be talking about 5 places that you have to visit when in Barmouth.
Barmouth Bridge

Barmouth Bridge is a part of the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast that has been standing since 1867, having been restored in 1902 then repaired again in 1985/1986.
As you cross the bridge (either by foot, train or bike) you are lucky enough to see absolutely stunning views of not only the sea but also inland of the mountains.
There are several trails that you can follow on the other side (the Fairbourne side) to Fairbourne or Dolgellau. The route to Dolgellau is actually the Mawddach Trail which leads you along disused rail tracks.
On the way across the bridge there is an honesty toll. It’s not a boring one though, you are feeding the troll when you pay. Two kids were even trying to throw their money into the mouth when we walked back across.
Panorama Walk

A lovely walk with absolutely breathtaking views. To get to the lookout point it can get a little steep in places, however if you are able to make the climb it is worth it.
Mum and I walked up part of the way with Rosie (our dog), she loved it. There was a little stream running alongside us as we walked that she could dip her paws in or have a little drink. Although her enjoyment could also have been the fuss, she got from the Scouts on our way back down!
Barmouth Beach and Harbour

We spent a lot of time along the beach and harbour, mainly the sections that allowed dogs because Rosie would have been mortally offended had we gone without her.
The sandy beach is bustling with families during the summer, especially with the addition of trampolines, a bouncy castle and a pirate ship on the main part. It is a lovely place to spend a couple of hours or even an entire day if you are so inclined.
Barmouth Harbour is still being used by the fishing industry as well as for pleasure. We were supposed to get on a boat here for a tour, however things happened and the tour guide picked up the wrong family.
The Last Inn

This pub was a recommendation from my sister, as she had been there before. It is an old 15th century inn that still has traditional inglenooks and ship beams. The feature that stands out about the Last Inn is that it actually has a waterfall inside.
We enjoyed having a snack here after doing some shopping. It is a nice place to just relax, although is a little cramped at some of the tables.
The Dolphin Sculpture and Water Feature

If you are an art fan, you will be pleased to hear that in the harbour a sculpture was erected back in 2007. The sculpture is a water feature of four entwined jumping dolphins.
Unfortunately, when we visited the water wasn’t running, but I still found the statue a beautiful piece of art.
Conclusion
We had a lovely time exploring Barmouth and the surrounding areas for the last couple of years. If you are looking for a base for your Welsh adventures, or a relaxed beach holiday, this is the place to be.
