One of our favourite experiences from our all too short time in St Augustine was the trolley tour.
What it is:
Old Town Trolley Tours is like the Hop on Hop off buses in many major cities. You’re given a sticker when you purchase your ticket (I’ll explain how this works with online purchases later) which allows you to get on and off at any of the stops through out the day (the sticker changes every day so don’t try to be sneaky!)
The Tour Stops:
There are 22 stops on the trolley tour, all of which are close to popular tourist attractions, such as the Fountain of Youth, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and Flagler College.
We boarded at the stop by the Old Jail and Oldest Store to travel back down towards the other attractions.
Commentary:
One of the best parts of the experience was the commentary given as we were travelling the streets of St Augustine. It was light-hearted and factual, with the driver inserting his own anecdotes and local knowledge.
Offers:
When you buy a ticket for the Trolley Tours you get free entry to St Augustine’s History Museum. But, when we visited, I managed to find a deal that involved both attractions, as well as the Old Jail, and the Oldest Store Museum. So, when buying tickets always look around for the best deal for you.
Also, if you are buying tickets online, like we did, you will be picking them up from the ticket office at the stop that we boarded the trolley. This is part of why we chose to explore the Old Jail and Store Museum before getting on the trolley tour so that we could make the most of our time at all of these points of interest.
Conclusion:
Not only are the trolleys a convenient way to travel, but they are also a great experience on their own. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is visiting this historic location for the first time.
