Harry absolutely loves ghost stories, Halloween and anything spooky, so as we were in Florida on his birthday, we decided to go on a ghost tour. I had been a bit apprehensive as I scare easily, but it was actually a lot of fun.

The Location of Ghosts and Gravestones Tour
One of the great things about this tour was how we changed location for every story and a lot of these were places of interest in St Augustine.
So, you meet at the meeting point and are led into what is decorated to look like an old, abandoned study with old medical paraphernalia. It is in this room that you meet your first spectre, as well as your guide.
From there your base is a trolley, which has been decorated specifically for this tour, and is driven by an actor impersonating a prisoner on release from the prison. The bus then drives you around St Augustine, to locations such as the cemetery, the wax museum and the Old Jail. This trolley is very similar to the trolley tours during the day because while you are driving around you are told ghost stories about the other landmarks that you are passing.
One of the best parts of this tour is the changing locations and how you are given a different perspective of the well-known attractions around the city. You are exploring the places after dark, which gives a completely new atmosphere to somewhere that you wouldn’t think twice about during the day.

The Actors of Ghosts and Gravestones
The actors performing on the tour are brilliant, they make the stories come alive. The first actor that you are introduced to is your tour guide, who is in period costume, then just before you get on the bus you meet the “prisoner” who will be driving you around for the tour. Along the way you meet a couple more actors, who are involved in the stories that are being told.
You can tell these actors enjoy what they do and know the stories inside and out. We were blown away by the performance of all those that we came into contact with.

Delivery of the St Augustine Ghost Stories
The man leading our tour had perfected the art of storytelling, pausing where it was needed and adding as many details as possible. Even as we were driving around and the landmarks that he was referring to were passing quickly, he still managed to pace the stories he told well.

Our Experience
As I mentioned earlier, Harry loves things like this tour, so when I saw there was one, I knew we would be doing it. The whole experience was amazing, I would definitely recommend it to others, even if the jail part gave me the creeps. I had been fine for the whole tour, but for some reason the minute we stepped into the Old Jail, I was terrified.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a fun evening activity that plays on St Augustine’s history and the paranormal, then this is definitely an activity to add to your itinerary. It is a lot of fun and completely worth the money.
